As a child, I always dreamt of playing soccer. It was not because I wanted to be like Rolando, Zidane or Messi. It was not about winning or losing. It was, and it remains about the love of playing the game. I love the exhilaration and excitement I feel when I am out on the field with my team, planning, passing, executing, shooting and scoring.
I am an American, with a French education, living in Lebanon. Growing up in different worlds helped shape my dreams. My dreams became my goals. Living in a war weary and economically depressed country where opportunities are limited and prospects now only exist for the rich, I appreciated the freedom, opportunities and contrast in cultures whenever I visited family in Los Angeles and Paris.
I was accepted and I plan on attending Chapman University business school majoring in ‘Business Administration’ and minoring in ‘Humanomics’ where I hope to better understand the relationship between humanities and economics. Why humanities you may ask. The answer is simple. Not only is it the link that binds us all, but it is also the foundation that links my goals.
We are all connected by our humanity. While we are all diverse and different, we should not allow our differences to separate us from our connection to each other. We are not white, black, brown or red. We are not male or female. We are not old or young. We are not Jews, Christians, Hindu, Buddhists or Muslims. We are not Europe, Asia or America. We are one. We are the same!
I want a college education that allows me the flexibility to choose to pursue, synthesize and strengthen many different fields of connections. I chose a major that would allow me to adapt and make informed decisions as I grow and gain knowledge, skill and confidence. For one, it would allow me to enter the field of sports management where I hope to develop the game of Soccer in the United States. The game has always lagged behind the rest of the world.
