Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
Over the last few years, I have pushed myself to take the most rigorous classes my high school has had to offer me. With those classes came a lot of responsibility. I was in charge of making sure I knew and understood all the material my teachers handed to me. I used different methods of preparation for different classes in order to do so. Flashcards helped me memorize different materials I needed to know. For example, I would use flashcards for things like vocabulary and dates in history. Online websites that offered examples for the specific material I was learning also helped me prepare tremendously. I believe students learn much better when they are able to get a visual of it. That is why I think it is so important for online websites to have step by step examples of the material. Although these things helped me learn the material I needed to know, it was missing a key factor that most students look for when trying to learn material- the fun factor. I believe that the best method of preparation is through music or games. Songs are catchy, which helps get them stuck in the students' heads. If it is stuck in your head, it is easy to repeat the words corresponding to the melody. The words in the song would be the information the student would need to know. Another helpful preparation tool would be the use of games. Memory games, matching games, and other games of this nature could easily draw a student to spend even just a little more time studying than they would have with some boring old flashcards. The information at hand that students are required to learn could be orchestrated into something enjoyable. The more intriguing the information is to the students, the more obligated they are going to feel to learn it- or at least attempt to. Learning and having fun do not often go hand in hand, but if they did, it could be a real game changer.
