Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

My favorite type of test preparation is practice tests where you get a grade. Taking a practice test over and over until I get a good grade helps me to feel comfortable with the types of questions that will be asked on the real test. I find these most helpful when studying for standardized tests such as the SAT or STAAR test.

My next favorite type of test preparation is games that you can "win". The most often used in my school is Kahoot - but there are others like it. I like the competition aspect of these games and I really like to win in class. I tend to remember the material because I am so invested in winning. These games are helpful even if I am playing alone at home

My last favorite type of test preparation is flashcards. I prefer the type where I write them myself on index cards and study them three-at-a-time (a method my aunt taught me) making piles for the ones I know well and the ones I don't know. It always helps me to hand-write things - I seem to remember them better that way. I like to watch my "know it" pile get taller and my "don't know it" pile get shorter as I continue to study. This method is best for vocabulary and terminology tests.

My least favorite types of test preparation is reading my notes (although I do like to take them) and reading a textbook over and over. That makes me fall asleep and I really don't remember much from it.
