Write an essay where you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to become a teacher.

Throughout my teenage years, I have always struggled deciding on what career I would want to achieve after graduating college. As years went on, I started researching different degrees I could earn that would involve children in my everyday career. I later found that a community college not far from my home offered an education in transfer associates degree. So, I applied right away to that college and I was later accepted that month. I was so happy to hear that I would be attending college for a teaching degree in the next fall and that I would have the opportunity to work with children for the rest of my life.
It was not until my senior year that the idea of teaching became a reality for me. Of course as a kid I always said I wanted to be a teacher, but I never fully considered it. Thankfully during my senior year, I took a child development class where I learned all about how children starting at the neonatal stage all the way through school- age children develop and grow. This was the most interesting class I had ever taken and I learned a lot about children that semester. In that class, our teacher gave us a project and we were told to host an event to involve children in the community. So we decided to plan an Easter egg hunt at our local elementary school. Most of the donations and hard work were given from the students in our class, but our teacher still helped us when needed. When we finally put on the event, my heart was fulfilled with happiness seeing how much fun the children had. I hope those kids remember that day so when they are older, they can become leaders for children like I did.
After the egg hunt, I realized that a teaching job will become difficult at times, but it will be worth it. A child’s education is extremely important for their future and that is why I am ready to provide a positive and healthy environment for my students some day so that they will feel at home. I hope that one day I inspire my students to work as hard as I did so that I can become a role model for my future students.
