Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then a firefighter. Later, I decided I wanted to be a doctor. There have been many professions I have been interested in while growing up. Over time, I started to see a pattern within these dreams. No matter what the job was, it was always centered around helping others.

After learning about the many different jobs within the medical field, I have chosen to pursue Nursing. Nursing staff have the opportunity to have a positive impact on someone’s experience in a hospital, ongoing care facilities, etc. I have seen this firsthand, as my grandma lived in an assisted living community, before her passing earlier this year. The nurses and staff there were able to help her transition into this new style of living by being warm and welcoming, assisting her in whatever she needs, and empathizing with her as her life completely changed from living independently to needing care 24/7. I know that if she did not move to a place with as great of nurses and staff that she had, the transition and ongoing stay there would have been harder than it already is. I hope that by becoming a nurse, I will be able to help others in the same way these nurses have helped my grandma.

I want to pursue Nursing, because I know I will not just be getting an RN degree, but to become a healthcare worker who can have a strong positive impact on the world. I hope that my education will shape me to be a well-rounded person, and that my educational experience will also shape me to be a better leader, community member, and more so I can take these skills with me into my future as a healthcare professional, and work in my everyday life to help others.
