Caregiving has been my calling throughout my life. If I had not become a caregiver, I would not be the resilient and courageous person that I developed into today. As John Wayne said, “Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.” As a caregiver, I have had to care for my ill father, my grandfather, cousin, and now my elderly grandmother (who were all afflicted with cancer). It was through my caregiving experiences that I decided to seek a Multiple Subject Credential to become a Kindergarten teacher.
It was through prayer that I decided to become a Kindergarten teacher. I was walking into my church’s school to pick up my two-year old niece, asking the Lord what career path I should take. At this time, the Kindergarten classes were lining up. Out of nowhere, a little boy jumped out in front of me and made a growling noise, baring his hands as if he were a Tiger. I feigned a ‘frightened’ exclamation. It was then that this little boy surprised me in the best way possible. He hugged me. He didn’t know me, but he hugged me. God had truly answered my prayer. It was at this point that I knew I wanted to teach Kindergarten for the rest of my life so that I may provide care for children every day.
This scholarship will not only enable me to complete my credential program, but will also help provide inspiration for hundreds of children’s futures. It will help me provide the additional care that these children need in their lives in order to thrive and see that life is truly beautiful.
