Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

I am a graduate student at NYU College of Global Public Health in the Master of Public Health program, with a concentration in management. As an NYU MPH student, I have great appreciation for public health. For me, to be a public health professional is to contribute to the betterment of the world, through public health and, in particular, through hospital administration. I would like to be the CEO of a hospital. In that leadership position, I will be able to reach out to patients, staff, and the local, national, and international communities to try to facilitate preventative and restorative health services to all people. Public Health experts utilize research to clarify public health needs and optimal community, organizational, and health care interventions. I believe that the field of public health provides the interface of many individuals and organizations in order to support the optimal health and well being of people around the world. My background includes a challenging emergence into the world and numerous work, volunteer, and leadership experiences. I was born in China and left in a seldom-visited spot. It was my good fortune that a caring older woman found me and brought me to the orphanage; an orphanage director placed me with a nurturing foster family; and the Chinese government allowed me to be adopted by my mother, a psychologist from California. There were many steps along the way, with multiple individuals, and governmental and non-governmental organizations, which assisted me and enabled me to live and thrive. I believe that the field of public health provides the interface of many individuals and organizations in order to support the optimal health and well being of people around the world. My motivation to make a difference in the world through participating as a public health professional reaches back to my own amazing beginning.
