Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
First, off, I familiarized myself with the test format for both the SAT and ACT, noting how many questions were in each section and how many sections there were. Then, using this info, I noted the amount of time I would allot myself for each section of the test. For example, for the English section, I would give myself about 11 minutes per passage, meaning I would have an extra 5 minutes in the end for safety. Using this method with a stopwatch, I noticed my speed definitely increasing; I was able to at least get to all the questions by the end of the section. As for the actual skills, I would mark any question I had any sort of doubt on and go on; even if I ended up getting it correct, I tried to figure out why that question was giving me an issue (timing, critical thinking, wording, etc). I did this for all the sections. In the end, my pacing improved and so did my critical thinking skills.
