Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
I first go through the study guide and write in my answers to the questions. Physically writing the answers engages my hands, my eyes and my mind. I will also make flash cards so that my kids can help me with my studying. They love to feel involved as well and I think they are actually learning also. They do ask a lot of questions about the subject after.
I then take a practice test if there is one available. Even if the practice test says I pass, I still look at the areas I had incorrect answers to, and go over those sections of the study material again to make sure that I know the correct answers.
On test day I also do a few things. I make sure I have had enough sleep the night before. I usually take my tests in the evening. I eat healthier higher protein foods that day and make sure that I drink plenty of water throughout the day. I will take the pre-test or practice test 1 more time to go over the material again. I have water or peppermint tea ready to drink during the test. Peppermint helps your mind stay clear and helps with recall as well.
Since I take proctored tests from home, I make sure my study area and test taking area are in a quiet room with no distractions. I have everything that I may need right there available and ready to use, and no kids in the room, no husband in the room, not even any pets in the room. I devote that time to just concentrate on test taking.
