This section tests your skills at solving a variety of different math problems as well as your ability to quantitative reasoning. You\u2019ll be given 45 minutes to complete 28 questions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/academy\/gre-quantitative-practice-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GRE Quantitative Practice Test<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/academy\/gre-quantitative-reasoning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GRE Quantitative Reasoning Study Guide<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Analytical Writing measures your ability to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively<\/li>\n<li>Support ideas with relevant reasons and examples<\/li>\n<li>Examine claims and accompanying evidence<\/li>\n<li>Sustain a well-focused, coherent discussion<\/li>\n<li>Control the elements of standard written English<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This section also requires you to provide focused responses based on tasks that are provided. This is also the first section that you\u2019ll take on the GRE test.<\/p>\n<p>In the Analytical Writing section, you\u2019re given two essays to complete. With the first essay, you\u2019re given a paragraph on a general issue and you\u2019re required to address that topic as you see fit. This essay will measure your ability to support your views with sound reasoning and how you use examples. This essay measures how you consider the reasoning that is presented in the argument and you\u2019ll be required to discuss whether you believe the argument is a good one or not. You\u2019ll need to analyze the argument and convey your reasoning. You\u2019re given 30 minutes to finish this essay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/academy\/gre-analytical-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GRE Analytical Writing Study Guide<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>How is the GRE Scored?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Each section on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/blog\/what-are-the-average-gre-scores\/\">GRE has its own score.<\/a><\/strong> Both the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are scored on a scale of 130-170, in one-point increments. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/blog\/lsat-analytical-reasoning-practice-2\/\">Analytical Reasoning<\/a> section is scored on a 0-6 scale, in half-point increments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/blog\/how-to-pass-the-gre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to Pass the GRE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For both Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections, the scores are based depending on the number of questions you answered correctly. The number of questions you got correct gives you your raw score. Your essay is read not only by a trained grader but also by an e-reader (computer program) that measures your writing in multiple areas.
