Some schools may ask you to take the Biology and Anatomy &amp; Physiology subtests as well, but the Chemistry subtest is rarely ever required. Check with the administrators of the school you are applying to for more information.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"pt-page\"><span id=\"Registration\" class=\"m-toc-anchor\"><\/span>Registration<\/h2>\n<p>In most cases, the nursing school or program you\u2019re applying to will handle the actual administration of the HESI exam. It will be up to them to determine which of the various subtests you\u2019ll take, what the time limits for the various tests are, and where you\u2019ll take the exam. They\u2019ll also determine the fees you\u2019ll pay to take the HESI A2. In many cases, you\u2019ll take the test right on the college campus.<\/p>\n<p>All of this information should be available on the nursing program\u2019s website. Each nursing school or program sets its own standards for ranking scores on each subtest. Generally speaking, though, any score below 75% is considered to be an indication that the applicant is not academically ready for the challenges of nursing school in that area.<\/p>\n<p>A score in the range of 75% to 79% is considered to be in the bottom range of acceptable, but an applicant whose score falls in this range will probably need quite a bit of help to succeed in nursing school. Scores from 80% to 89% indicate that the applicant should be able to graduate from nursing school with only minimal academic assistance. Most schools allow at least one re-take if a person isn\u2019t satisfied with their score. However, there is often a waiting period that must be satisfied before attempting the exam again. Some schools allow more than one retake, but only so many within a calendar period. Ideally, you\u2019ll do your very best on your first attempt and won\u2019t need to worry about <a class=\"ylist\" href=\"https:\/\/evolve.elsevier.com\/cs\/store?role=student\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retaking the HESI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Practice\" class=\"pt-page\"><span id=\"How_to_Practice_for_the_HESI_A2\" class=\"m-toc-anchor\"><\/span>How to Practice for the HESI A2<\/h2>\n<h3><span id=\"Confirm_Your_Subjects\" class=\"m-toc-anchor\"><\/span>Confirm Your Subjects<\/h3>\n<p>Before creating your study schedule, confirm which HESI A2 subtests your nursing or healthcare program requires. Schools don&#8217;t necessarily administer every available subtest, and they may establish different time limits and score requirements. Preparing heavily for a subject your program does not test is wasted effort.<\/p>\n<p>Once you know your required subjects, take a HESI A2 practice test to establish a starting point. You do not need to wait until you have reviewed every topic. At this stage, the goal is to identify where your preparation time will have the greatest effect.<\/p>\n<p>Review your results by section and content area:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px\"><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Mathematics:<\/strong> Are you comfortable working with fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurements, conversions, and word problems?<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px\"><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Reading Comprehension:<\/strong> Can you identify main ideas and supporting details, make inferences, determine an author\u2019s purpose, and understand words from context?<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px\"><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Vocabulary:<\/strong> Can you recognize the meanings of general and healthcare-related terms, including unfamiliar words that contain recognizable roots, prefixes, or suffixes?<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px\"><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Grammar:<\/strong> Do you need more practice with sentence structure, parts of speech, agreement, word usage, spelling, or punctuation?<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px\"><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Biology:<\/strong> Are you comfortable with cells, genetics, biological molecules, metabolism, and other foundational life-science concepts?<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px\"><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Chemistry:<\/strong> Do you understand atomic structure, chemical reactions, equations, matter, solutions, acids, and bases?<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-weight: 600\">Anatomy and Physiology:<\/strong> Can you identify major body structures, explain their functions, and understand how the body systems work together?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Identifying those specific weaknesses will show you where to devote more attention during your study time.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Review_Difficult_Questions\" class=\"m-toc-anchor\"><\/span>Review Difficult Questions<\/h3>\n<p>After each practice session, review every question you answered incorrectly AND every question you guessed on or answered with low confidence.
