<\/span>Exam Outline<\/h2>\nThe ILTS English Language Arts exam contains 100 multiple-choice questions, and you will be given a time limit of 3 hours and 15 minutes.<\/p>\n
The exam is split into four subareas.<\/p>\n
<\/span>1. Reading Comprehension (28 questions)<\/h3>\nThe questions in this subarea assess your knowledge and skills pertaining to the following:<\/p>\n
\n- The nature, development, and relevancy of reading in all content areas<\/li>\n
- Using various materials to plan appropriate reading instruction<\/li>\n
- Teaching and assessing word identification skills and vocabulary development<\/li>\n
- Using oral language to help students develop reading skills and reading comprehension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>2. Reading Literary and Informational Texts (22 questions)<\/h3>\nThe questions in this subarea assess your knowledge and skills pertaining to the following:<\/p>\n
\n- Literature from a variety of cultures, genres, media, eras, and traditions<\/li>\n
- Literary nonfiction and other informational texts from a variety of cultures, genres, media, eras, and traditions<\/li>\n
- Developing comprehension and analysis of literary and informational texts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>3. Writing and Research (39 questions)<\/h3>\nThe questions in this subarea assess your knowledge and skills pertaining to the following:<\/p>\n
\n- Writing processes<\/li>\n
- Engaging students in writing processes<\/li>\n
- Elements of effective composition<\/li>\n
- Teaching students to use elements of composition effectively<\/li>\n
- Writing arguments<\/li>\n
- Writing informative and explanatory texts<\/li>\n
- Locating, analyzing, evaluating, and organizing information from multiple sources<\/li>\n
- Writing narratives<\/li>\n
- Revising, editing, proofreading, and publishing documents and for guiding students through these stages of writing processes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>4. Speaking, Listening, and Viewing (11 questions)<\/h3>\nThe questions in this subarea assess your knowledge and skills pertaining to the following:<\/p>\n
\n- Developing skills for speaking, presenting, and participating in academic discussions<\/li>\n
- Developing listening and viewing skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/span>Registration<\/h2>\nTo register for the exam, you must first create an ILTS\/ISBE account. Once your account has been created, log in and select the English Language Arts (207) exam. From there, you can register for the exam, pay the $110 testing fee, and schedule your testing appointment.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Test Day<\/h2>\nYou should arrive about 30 minutes early to the testing center on test day. After you arrive, you will be asked to sign in and provide two valid forms of government-issued ID.<\/p>\n
After the check-in process, you will be asked to place all personal items (cell phone, keys, wallet, accessories, etc.) in a locker outside the testing room, or you may be asked to leave them in your car.<\/p>\n
Once the test begins, you will be allowed to take breaks. However, the timer will not be stopped during your break, so use your break time carefully.<\/p>\n
<\/span>How the Exam is Scored<\/h2>\nYour ILTS English Language Arts score is determined by taking your raw score (the number of questions you answered correctly) and converting it to a scaled score from 100 to 300. To pass, you will need to get a minimum scaled score of 240.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
