<\/span>NYSTCE Spanish Exam Outline<\/h2>\nThe NYSTCE Spanish exam contains 50 selected-response questions and three constructed-response questions, and you will be given a time limit of 3.5 hours.<\/p>\n
The exam is split into five competencies:<\/p>\n
<\/span>1. Interpretive Listening (25 questions)<\/h3>\nThe questions in this competency are designed to assess your knowledge and skills pertaining to the following:<\/p>\n
\n- Identifying explicit and relevant information in a spoken message<\/li>\n
- Using register and sociolinguistic conventions in formal, informal, familiar, and unfamiliar situations and contexts<\/li>\n
- Determining the meaning and nuances of words and phrase in spoken messages<\/li>\n
- The form and use of various linguistic structures in Spanish<\/li>\n
- Discerning and summarizing a speaker’s key ideas<\/li>\n
- Evaluating a speaker’s use of reasoning and evidence<\/li>\n
- Making inferences based on context and information given in a spoken message<\/li>\n
- Determining an assumption, perspective, or intent by analyzing a spoken message<\/li>\n
- Determining how a Spanish speaker’s point of view is influenced by the language’s cultural roots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

<\/span>3. Presentational Writing (1 question)<\/h3>\nFor this competency, you will be asked to write a short essay in Spanish in response to the given question. The question will be related to an authentic literary\/informational excerpt written in Spanish.<\/p>\n
<\/span>4. Presentational Speaking (1 question)<\/h3>\nFor this competency, you will be asked to respond in Spanish to the given question. The question will be related to an authentic literary\/informational excerpt written in Spanish.<\/p>\n
<\/span>5. Pedagogical Content Knowledge (1 question)<\/h3>\nFor this competency, you will be asked to apply pedagogical knowledge across multiple content domains to design instruction for students, analyze student understanding, and understand how students learn.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/span> Exam Registration<\/h2>\nTo register for the NYSTCE Spanish (129) exam, you will need to create an NYSTCE account online and complete the registration process there. It is recommended that you complete the registration process at least 30 days before you take the exam.<\/p>\n
During this process, you will be asked some questions about your educational history, as well as your current education level, first language, matriculation status, and the education code for the NYC Department of Education program type you are associated with.<\/p>\n
The examination fee is $122.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Test Day<\/h2>\nOn test day, you should arrive between 15-30 minutes early to allow time for the check-in process. Once you arrive, you will be asked to sign in and provide a valid form of government-issued photo ID. Along with your ID, you are also required to bring your own graphing calculator, as one will not be provided for you.<\/p>\n
Before the exam begins, you will be asked to place all personal items (phone, books, notes, bag\/backpack, hat, food, highlighters, recording devices, etc.) in a locker outside the testing room, or you may be asked to leave them in your car.<\/p>\n
Once the test begins, you will be allowed to take breaks. However, the timer will not be stopped during your break, so use your break time carefully.<\/p>\n
<\/span>How the Exam is Scored<\/h2>\nYour total NYSTCE Spanish score is based on the number of questions you answered correctly, which is then reported as a numerical figure in the range of 400-600. To pass the exam, you must achieve a scaled score of 520.<\/p>\n
You should receive your test results roughly 2-4 weeks after taking the exam. When you receive your score report, you will see your total score, your pass\/fail status, and your scores for each subarea of the test.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
