<\/span>Exam Outline<\/h2>\n

The FTCE Prekindergarten\/Primary PK-3 exam is split into four subtests. You must pass all four subtests to pass the exam, but you do not have to take all four subtests in one sitting.<\/p>\n

Altogether, the exam contains 180 multiple-choice questions and has a time limit of 4.5 hours.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Subtest 1: Developmental Knowledge (50 questions)<\/h3>\n

This subtest, which is timed at 70 minutes, is split into seven knowledge-based competencies:<\/p>\n

  1. Child growth, child development, and relationships with the community and families (14%)<\/li>\n
  2. The profession and foundations of early childhood education (12%)<\/li>\n
  3. Developmentally appropriate practices (20%)<\/li>\n
  4. Developmentally appropriate curricula (12%)<\/li>\n
  5. Developmentally appropriate intervention strategies and resources (15%)<\/li>\n
  6. Diagnosis, assessment, and evaluation (14%)<\/li>\n
  7. Child guidance and classroom behavioral management (13%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/span>Subtest 2: Language Arts and Reading (50 questions)<\/h3>\n

    This subtest, which is timed at 70 minutes, is split into five knowledge-based competencies:<\/p>\n

    2. Literary and informational texts (18%)<\/li>\n
    3. Foundational reading skills (24%)<\/li>\n
    4. Language elements used for effective oral and written communication (22%)<\/li>\n
    5. Assessments that inform literacy instruction (12%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      <\/span>Subtest 3: Mathematics (40 questions)<\/h3>\n

      This subtest, which is timed at 70 minutes, is split into five knowledge-based competencies:<\/p>\n

      2. Algebraic thinking (16%)<\/li>\n
      3. Measurement and data collection and analysis (15%)<\/li>\n

        <\/span>Subtest 4: Science (40 questions)<\/h3>\n

        This subtest, which is timed at one hour, is split into five knowledge-based competencies:<\/p>\n

          <\/span>Exam Registration<\/h2>\n

          To register for the exam, you must first create an FTCE\/FELE account. Once you are logged in, select \u201cPre-Kindergarten\/Primary PK-3\u201d as your exam. From there, you can register for the exam, pay the testing fee, and schedule your testing appointment.<\/p>\n

          When you schedule your appointment, you will need to choose how many of the subtests you would like to take. Though you need to pass all four subtests to pass the overall exam, you may take the subtests separately.<\/p>\n

          The fee for the full exam is $150.<\/p>\n

          <\/span>Test Day<\/h2>\n

          On the day of your testing appointment, you should arrive at the testing center 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. Once you arrive, you will be asked to sign in and provide two valid forms of government-issued ID, one of which must be a photo ID. Your digital photograph will then be taken, and a biometric scan of your palm vein will be taken for identification and security purposes.<\/p>\n

          Before the exam begins, you will need to place all personal items in a secure locker outside the testing room, or you may be asked to leave them in your car. If you wear eyeglasses, they will be briefly removed and inspected before you enter the testing room.<\/p>\n

          Once the test begins, you will be allowed to take breaks. However, the timer will not be stopped during your break, so use your break time carefully.<\/p>\n

          <\/span>How the Exam is Scored<\/h2>\n

          Your FTCE score is calculated using a scaled scoring method, which takes the number of questions you answered correctly (your \u201craw\u201d score) and converts it to a scaled score. To pass, you will need to achieve a scaled score of at least 200 per subtest, and you must pass all four subtests to pass the exam.<\/p>\n

          You will receive your official score report within four weeks after testing.<\/p>\n

          <\/span>Retaking the Exam<\/h2>\n

          If you failed the exam, you may retake it after paying the necessary fees.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
