<\/span>FTCE English 6-12 Exam Outline<\/h2>\n

The FTCE English 6-12 exam contains approximately 60 multiple-choice questions and one essay, and you will be given a time limit of 2.5 hours.<\/p>\n

The exam is split into seven knowledge-based competencies:<\/p>\n

  1. Knowledge of the effective use of the English language at the postsecondary level (15%)<\/li>\n
  2. Knowledge of communication skills, techniques, and processes (18%)<\/li>\n
  3. Knowledge of literacy processes and instructional practices (15%)<\/li>\n
  4. Knowledge of a wide range of literary and informational texts (17%)<\/li>\n
  5. Knowledge of techniques for listening, viewing, speaking, and presenting (10%)<\/li>\n
  6. Knowledge of pedagogical content for teaching English language arts (15%)<\/li>\n
  7. Knowledge of various assessments and assessment data (10%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\t\t\t

    <\/span> Exam Registration<\/h2>\n

    To register for the exam, you must first create an FTCE\/FELE account. Once your account has been created, log in and select the English 6-12 exam. From there, you can register for the exam, pay the $150 exam fee, and schedule your testing appointment.<\/p>\n

    The exam is split into two sections: a multiple-choice section and a writing section. You may choose to take both sections in one testing appointment, or you may choose to take each section at a different testing appointment.<\/p>\n

    <\/span>Test Day<\/h2>\n

    On the day of the exam, you should arrive at the testing center 15-30 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment. When you arrive, you will be asked to sign in and provide two valid forms of government-issued ID, one of which must contain your photograph.<\/p>\n

    Before the exam begins, you will be asked to place all personal items (cell phone, bags, watch, keys, wallet, etc.) in a locker outside the testing room, or you may be asked to leave them in your car.<\/p>\n

    Once the test begins, you will be allowed to take breaks. However, the timer will not be stopped during your break, so use your break time carefully.<\/p>\n

    <\/span>How the Exam is Scored<\/h2>\n

    Your score for the multiple-choice section is determined by taking your raw score (the number of questions you answered correctly) and converting it to a scaled score. To pass, you will need to get a minimum scaled score of 200. You must also achieve a minimum score of 8 out of 12 points on the writing section.<\/p>\n

    You will receive your official score report within four weeks after testing.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
