{"id":221410,"date":"2024-08-09T08:45:01","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T13:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/academy\/?page_id=221410"},"modified":"2025-05-22T14:50:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T19:50:19","slug":"email-8-ptcb-qod-answer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mometrix.com\/academy\/email-8-ptcb-qod-answer\/","title":{"rendered":"PTCB Question of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"qod-container\">\n<div class=\"answer-box\">\n<h2><span id=\"Answer\" class=\"m-toc-anchor\"><\/span>Answer<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"answer-choice\" start=\"4\">\n<li><span>Perform a clinical review of prescription orders.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr>\n<p>The following actions CAN legally be performed by a pharmacy technician:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 1em;\">\n<li>Receive and enter paper or faxed prescription orders<\/li>\n<li>Receive refill requests from patients<\/li>\n<li>Receive a refill authorization from a prescriber or their agent (given that there are no changes to the prescription)<\/li>\n<li>Enter prescription orders and insurance information into the pharmacy software system<\/li>\n<li>View and enter patient data<\/li>\n<li>Act as a cashier<\/li>\n<li>Count or measure out drug products in order to prepare a prescription order<\/li>\n<li>Manage pharmacy inventor<\/li>\n<li>Load drug-dispensing devices (e.g., Pyxis machines) or automated dispensing robots<\/li>\n<li>Distribute or deliver medications<\/li>\n<li>Prepare sterile IV admixtures and nonsterile compounds under the supervision of a pharmacist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following actions MUST be performed by a licensed pharmacist:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 1em;\">\n<li>Provide medication counseling or give medical advice to patients<\/li>\n<li>Perform a clinical review of prescription orders<\/li>\n<li>Perform clinical interventions (e.g., drug interaction, prescription alteration)<\/li>\n<li>Perform a drug utilization review<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In most cases, only pharmacists are allowed to transfer prescriptions from one pharmacy to another.
