What Was the Adams-On\u00eds Treaty?<\/h1>\n

The Adams-On\u00eds Treaty was the method of solving disputes for Eastern Florida between the U.S. and Spain. Eastern Florida had become a place of congregation for runaway slaves, Native Americans, and outlaws. They would congregate, then launch raids against the U.S. Spanish presence was limited and was not active in stopping these raids. The Adams-On\u00eds Treaty was signed by John Quincy Adams and Luis de On\u00eds. It established that Eastern Florida would be sold by Spain to the U.S. for $5 million. This was then used by Spain to help pay off some of the debt they owed to the United States.<\/p>\n
