Lee"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Who Was Robert E. Lee?<\/h1>\n<p>Robert E. Lee was the commander of the Confederate army. He was originally asked by Lincoln to lead the Union army, but he joined the Confederacy when his homestate, Virginia, seceded from the Union. Lee started as a senior military advisor for Jefferson Davis, who was the President of the Confederacy. Lee eventually surrendered in 1865 at the Appomattox Court House. Within two months the rest of the Confederate armies surrendered as well.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lyte-wrapper fourthree\" title=\"Robert E.
