GACE Family and Consumer Sciences Education Practice Test
With American children becoming obese at higher-than-ever rates, it’s important that they know where their food comes from and how they can form nutritious eating habits to guide them through life. Besides eating and wellness, the role of family is also important to junior high and high school students. The Family and Consumer Sciences Education exam assesses the knowledge of teachers who plan to teach this subject to Georgia students in grades 6–12.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Education exam is a two-part test. The two parts can be taken together or separately. Each test is two hours long with 80 questions to answer. Test I consists of three subareas: food science and nutrition, resource management, and textiles and apparel. You will be tested on your knowledge of food preparation, safety, properties of food, planning menus, following recipes, dietary guidelines, nutrients, healthy living and resource consumption. You will also need to know about the design of clothing and apparel.
Part II consists of four subareas: early childhood education and community services, family and interpersonal relationships, foundations of family and consumer sciences, and housing and living environments. You will be tested on the various stages of human growth and development, early education, types of relationships, communication strategies to improve relationships, family units, parenting styles, coping strategies, career paths in the family and consumer science field, architectural design, characteristics of housing and the impact of the environment on housing.
