Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
As a student who has suffered from test anxiety most of my academic career, I find that test prepping is one way I can control my nerves. Applying for college was one on of the biggest struggles to date that I have experienced. Without a passing test score on both the ACT and the SAT, I wouldn't be able to get into any school and I would be left trying to figure a way to somehow make a life for myself without college. I understood the importance of a passing score and knew that I needed to do everything in my power to achieve it. I began taking ACT/SAT prep classes to ensure that I would be 110% prepared for my upcoming tests. Being that I had test anxiety, I started studying a full year in advance so that I wouldn't put any extra stress on myself. I learned that if I study the material slowly and efficiently, I am able to walk into any test and calm my anxiety. With a lot of hard work and preparation, I was able to pass both the ACT and the SAT and get into the University of South Florida. From this moment, I recognized the importance of test preparation. If you do not work hard towards your test, your grades will reflect. I understand now that I take a longer time to retain information that I study, but when I give myself that extra time I am able to pass any test I set my mind to. Since I am now in college, I make sure to study for every single test for a minimum of one week ahead of time. By doing so, I am able to make sure that I am truly retaining the information that I am studying. I have also learned that this helps me calm my nerves during tests. When I am confident in myself, I am able to be confident in my test score. Sure there are students that are able to cram the night before, but I realized early on that I am not that type of student. Truly understanding both my strengths and weaknesses allows me to set myself aside from everyone else and do what is best for myself and my education.
